India’s First Make IN India Attack Helicopter

Indian Air Force on Monday (3 oct) Introduce India First Indigenously built multri-role attack Light Combat Helicopter(LCH), “PRACHAND” in present of India Defence Minister Rajnath Singh at Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

This helicopter have 45% indigenous content by value, which is set to go up to over 55% in the next upcoming version of the helicopter. Being on the import embargo list, India dependence on foreign combat helicopter will go down. The prachand armament comes from foreign counter.

The 5.8-tonne twin engine combat helicopter especially designed for high-altitude and night attack capability and crash-worthy landing gear for better survivability.

When we see HAL Prachand armament, attacking capacity Guns: 1 * 20 Mn M621 cannon on nexter THL-20 turret. This cannon help lot counter terrorism operations. Beside 4 leaser guided missile 4 * 12 FZ275 LGR. Also, this attack helicopter attacks all aircraft, pracchand is used air-to-air missile.
This is really a very aggressive attack helicopter because helicopter doesn’t have yet protection suite. In this particular case helicopter have 95% attack and 5% defense character. Because all this armament this helicopter is very aggressive attack helicopter.
CSS approves procurement of 15 light combat helicopter Limited series production from HAL for Indian Air Force(10) and Indian Army(5).At cost of Rs. 3,887 Cr along with infrastructure sanctions worth Rs.377Cr.

Why we made this type of helicopter In India

The LCH has been developed primarily for mountain warfare after a requirement for its was felt during the Kargil war in 1999. At  that time India decide to make this type of helicopter in India.

The IAF and army require an estimated 160 LCHs in the coming years. The army alone plans to acquire  95 helicopters for deployment in the mountains. Army expects to make operational its first squadron of LCH helicopter next month.
